![]() ![]() Known as the Hub City because of its unique position in almost the exact geographical center of Los Angeles County, the City of Compton is also one of the oldest. ![]() Compton greeted the 21st century as a multiracial, multicultural community of nearly 100,000 residents. Sports activities were influential in the development of Michael and he give back to the community by serving as coach of football and basketball for the City of Compton Parks and Recreation. Compton is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Michael has completed a Management Course in Nano Technology at Loyola Marymount University and serves as an advocate for using molecular engineering in Public works applications In his leisure time he likes to read, gardening, listen to jazz and slow cook. ![]() This year he was selected to be the Western Representative for the American Public Works Association Task force to create materials to interest high school students to pursue a career in the Public Works infrastructure field (see attachment News Release). As a NPPR Board member Michael will be developing cutting edge technology based pollution prevention training materials for various industry sectors. Simpson currently serves as Past President of the Los Angeles Council of Engineers and Scientist, and is an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, California Water Environment Association, the American Public Works Association, National Society of Black Engineers Alumni Chapter and a Board member for the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (NPPR). He has led many initiatives for the Department and is most proud of assisting in creating a Project Management Guidelines handbook for the Bureau of Sanitation with collaborative web base tools. Michael has been a leader in bringing a project management culture to over 4000 employees in the Department of Public Works Engineering and Sanitation Bureaus in the City of Los Angeles.
